Review of August BarkBox 2013: Item 4 of 5
Ruckus Report: Aussie Naturals Floatie "Dolphin"I received this creative water toy in my August 2013 BarkBox edition and wanted to share my thoughts on it. This is my first BarkBox, and the Aussie Naturals Floatie Dolphin was the one big toy that it came with.
PROS:
Aussie's Naturals mission is to create green and earth friendly pet toys and gear. They use jute, wool, cotton, coconut fiber, natural gum rubber and leather. Their products have been tested on their own dogs and with rescue groups in Georgia.
They carry products for both canines and felines! There are about 14 toys they have listed on their website just for us pups. The Aussie ones listed are: Aussie Floppies, Aussie Lobbie, and Aussie Wiggly. What fun names!
CONS:
There are a couple of turnoffs associated with this toy.
The first and foremost is that this product was handcrafted in China. Of course that does not necessarily mean that it is dangerous or toxic (since majority of our sapiens products are also from there), but it just makes my sapiens more cautious.
The second is the odor that the material produces. This scent actually makes it less fun for me to chew on the toy. I actually haven't been able to play with this in the water just quite yet so I'm not sure how the texture will feel like. The material feels like it comes from the wetsuits my sapiens have tried before. Perhaps the smell will wash off once I splash some water on it!

DESIGN:
- This chew toy is stuffing-free with no mess.
- It measures 18'' long and is made from thick neoprene.
- The dolphin is actually good for water play since it will float (still need to test that out before the sun is gone!).
- There is a Chew-o-Meter listed on the card and as you can see, it falls a hairline over the medium intensity.
- The fun part is, this can become a 2-in-1 toy bundle. If you are able to tear open the dolphin, inside should contain a tennis ball and rope. And of course 2 squeakers--one located in the rostrum, the other in the median notch, where the two flukes meet up. That's right, this is a test of dolphin anatomy for you!
PRICE:
The Aussie Naturals website lists their dolphin toy for $11.99 USD. You may be able to find them here through Amazon.
Overall, this toy is pretty to look at, but without extensive play in the water (where it should be used), it's hard to make a final decision.

Great review. I looked at these earlier this summer, but ended up choosing another brand for Rosie.
ReplyDeleteHi Sue, what other brand and summer toy did you and Rosie end up going with?
DeleteA floatie with no water, that is a big bummer. I wonder if it would float if it had teeth marks?
ReplyDeleteGood question Emma! We shall test it out soon and get back to you.
DeleteBoth dogs were excited to play.
