August 2013 BarkBox Review

1st Place Winning Photo for the BarkBox and Wrapp Photo Contest

WOOF! I won my first contest: A 6-month subscription to BarkBox. Ruff ruff! Thank you Wrapp Corp & BarkBox!

Special deliveries right to my door! I have been waiting so patiently for my first BarkBox to arrive and what do I come home to? THREE of them!? Actually the other two were an early birthday gift from a dear friend  and a gift from me to my cousin Butters the Frenchie. I wanted Butters to experience the BarkBox giddiness, too!

You have probably seen the picture above already on my Facebook and Instagram. The burning question is..what's INSIDE?  Boy, when the BarkBox first arrived, I knew it was for me because I could smell the goods! I kept nudging it persistently to hint to my sapiens to open the darn boxes already! They finally listened after I threw in some whining.

Medium-sized BarkBox Items include: (click on links for reviews)
1) Primal Pet: Freeze-Dried Liver Munchies 2oz ($6.99)
2) Barkworthies: Bully Flakes 4oz Food Topper ($5.25)
3) Plato: Natural Duck Strips 6oz ($6.99)
4) Aussie Naturals: Aussie Floatie "Dolphin" ($11.99)
5) The Honest Kitchen: Ice Pups 0.5 oz 1 Packet ($0.99)

Total Value: $32.21

My sapiens' biggest concern with subscribing to a box of random stuff  each month is wondering how safe the items are. Here is BarkBox's response to that on their website:

"We don't include rawhide (or anything processed with formaldehyde). Minimal processing; no glycerin whenever possible; wheat, gluten, soy, corn, filler-free whenever possible; organic whenever possible. We are moving toward limited, if not single, ingredient products."

Note: I am not a huge fan of their website. It is very simple and does not contain many features or functions. This can be a good or bad thing depending on the type of dog you are. I am very technical and love to do my research before diving into anything. I would have liked to see what was given out in previous boxes and how the subscribers rate and grade each product. That would have probably convinced me to subscribe earlier. But hey, maybe that's just me. If you are thinking about whether or not you should convince your sapiens to subscribe, I will spend the time to review each item in the upcoming Ruckus Reports. Hopefully this will help you make your decision if you were on the fence like me on whether or not to join.

These boxes are exciting and entertaining (to both me and my sapiens). They are worth more than $30 each in retail price and with a 6-month subscription they are down to $19 a month including shipping. BarkBox ships the 15th of each month and I just received mines yesterday. It ships from Brooklyn, NY, so it had to make a long trek across the country to get to me. The small dog, medium dog, and large dog BarkBoxes are the same price. In generalI deem this very convenient since it saves the sapiens a trip to the pet store.  What's great about BarkBox is that sapiens don't feel too guilty about spoiling pups like myself because 10% goes to a rescue group. If you know of an organization who can benefit from BarkBox's support, have them sign up for their charity program. Every bit counts.

I didn't know what all the hype was about for the longest time but now that I've experienced it first hand.....HYPE HYPE HYPE. I cannot wait for next month!!! Hope this August BarkBox Review is helpful.
