How Your Dog Can Avoid Getting Fleas
Contributed/Collaborated Post:
It's the season for the sprouting of fleas and dogs itching all over the place. Springtime is when we see migrating birds flying in the skies and we see dazzling water creatures like dragonflies and bears finally coming out of hibernation. But even the smallest creatures like fleas will erupt in large numbers. Your dog will want to rush and play, but knowing what you do now, you need to be wary of what he does. It seems like for some owners, getting a flea jab is just par for the course. However, they don’t come cheap and your dog might not have a good reaction to them. So what else can you do?
Fleas are a nightmare to deal with once they get out of control. But these measures should make it easy for your dog to stop rolling around and itching all the time.

Not so friendly
Most of the time, your dog will get fleas from another dog. So when your dog goes to the park, you shouldn’t allow him to be too friendly with the other dogs. It's a good idea to meet the other dogs every time instead of taking your pooch off the leash and letting him run and play. Talk with the other owners that you meet and ask if their dog is healthy. If you spot the signs of fleas on another dog, you have every right to tell the owner he or she shouldn’t bring the dog to the park unless their dog is receiving treatment. The other owner might not have even noticed, which is why you should bring it up with them. If this is the case, take your dog away from that dog and take him to another part of the park.A monthly treat-ment
The best measures are always preventative. Something like Nexgard Spectra should be taken once or twice a month. This chewy treat is also a treatment for fleas and four other parasites. Your dog will love to chew on a Nexgard treat as it is formulated to taste fantastic and to stimulate your dog’s mouth and senses. Getting the right product is easy as it's merely calculated by the weight and size of the dog. If your dog weighs over 66lbs, then the Nexgard Spectra red label is what you should buy. If you have a little ‘pocket dog’ like a chihuahua, then get the orange label product.A good bathing
Dogs don’t like to bathe but they don’t put up as much a fight as cats do! If your dog has fleas, one of the best at-home treatments is to give him a bath with anti-flea shampoo. What you should do first is catch the large fleas by combing his fur. Then, do your normal bathing routine, but this time you use a product like Adam’s flea and tick shampoo. Made with oatmeal and coconut extract, it kills fleas and their larvae while soothing his skin. It's a 12-ounce bottle, so you can get around 10-15 good washes out of it. It also gets rid of dandruff and the usual dirt and mud which dogs have in their fur.Fleas are a nightmare to deal with once they get out of control. But these measures should make it easy for your dog to stop rolling around and itching all the time.
