How to Grow your Instagram to 60k Followers
Hi friends! Many people inquire how we are able to gain so much traction on Instagram over at @ruckustheeskie. As of now, we have over 55k followers after starting the account a few years ago.
We started Ruckus the Eskie initially because we wanted to share our adorable cutie pie with the world. We realized that we were spamming family members and friends via email and on our personal social media accounts. The next step was to just create a separate account. We left this account public and noticed that the world wide web also expressed interest in this fluff ball! We have to admit, Ruckus is too cute to just keep to ourselves.
Here are a five quick tips on how to grow your Instagram account:
1) Find a niche
- Discover what your passion is.
- What do you love to share?
- What do you love to talk about?
2) High Quality Photos
- A good quality camera is helpful, but not necessary.
- We previously used the Canon 60D, however noticed that it was bulky for everyday use.
- Camera phones now produce good quality photos as well. Convenient! Our current photos are directly straight off my iPhone 6s.
3) Engagement
- This is something that I see many accounts fail to do. We read every comment and try our best to engage as much with our followers and fans as much as possible. Talking with other instagrammers and bloggers in your niche also helps with collaboration and networking in the field.
- Activity and consistency are key on Instagram. Followers and fans will follow an active feed. We try to post daily but we know that for many, this may not be feasible. I mean, some of us have jobs right? We sure do!
- We notice that some accounts have strict rules and guidelines on what they will or will not post. Keep in mind that this is completely up to you and the freedom belongs to you. Over at Ruckus the Eskie, we always remember that whatever we share, it is organic and true to us. Our main goal is to provide a glimpse into the lives of Ruckus and family.
We hope this helps provide some insight on how to grow and develop your Instagram. These are tips from our personal experiences.
Please drop by and visit us over @ruckustheeskie! We love to come visit your account as well. Please tag us!

How to Teach a Dog to Balance Treat on Nose #balancingact
1. Ensure that your dog is in a familiar and comfortable setting for training (ie avoid distractions)
2. Engage your dog to make sure that his/her full attention is on you
3. Make sure to choose a desirable treat with a flat surface
4. Have your dog in a sitting position, avoid slippery grounds for sliding
5. Initially, hold the dog treat close to your dog's nose or mouth, teaching your dog to ignore the treat by firmly saying "no" when he/she tries to reach for it. Be patient, it may take many sessions to even perfect this step.
6. Once your dog is able to avoid the food around his/her nose, place gently on snout
7. Practice balancing with your dog followed with the cues "Take it" or "OK" to allow your dog to grab at the treat. Once your dog can balance the treat on his/her nose, you may slowly lengthen the time before your dog takes the treat.
8. Remember to avoid yelling and causing a stressful environment--learn when to end the training session when you sense your dog is distressed
9. Give lots of praises. treats, and encouragement throughout the training process
10. Have fun and use the training session as a bonding experience with you and your pet!
This is how we train Ruckus the treat balancing act. He is an avid learner and very treat driven, so after a few sessions, he was able to ace it. Remember that each dog has their own learning curve!
TIP: It is extremely helpful to first teach your dog how to leave and take treats off their paws. Then the next step would be off the nose!
Here's the YouTube video of some of Ruckus's tricks.

Taking Care of Ruckus's Teeth after Days and Days of Feasting #BestofBLUE

What a fantastic Thanksgiving meal that we had together as a family. Ruckus was the centerpiece of the entire thing, and stayed in this pose the entire time as his uncles, aunts, grandparents, and so on fluttered around him. Note that the apple is pictured to scale, and just as big as Ruckus's nose!

Ruckus is happy to be with so much family and extended family this holiday season. There's no better way of getting together than by sharing a meal. While scraps of brisket, turkey, and even cranberry sauce can be tasty in small morsels when handed down by his loved ones, Ruckus is always hankering for a full blown meal. Ruckus is hoping that if he eats enough of this ...that he will start looking like that tough wolf dog on that bag!

Getting a Little Assist to Daily Nutrition #NOWpetsSweeps
This post is sponsored by NOW® Pets and the BlogPaws® Pet Influencer NetworkTM.
I am being compensated to help create awareness about NOW Pet Supplements
but we only share information we feel is relevant to our readers. NOW® is not
responsible for the content of this article.
How many of you humans take a daily supplement to complement your nutrition? We all want to live healthy and complete lives so that we can stay active and energetic throughout the day, whether it be at work, or out enjoying the weather outside. Even just having a nice day relaxing and watching TV shouldn't make you feel lethargic. Ruckus himself likes to keep well balanced in all the activities he partakes in.
We've taken some to help keep balance when we don't always eat balanced meals throughout the day, and we've thought about canine-versions of these as well. NOW® Pets provide dietary supplements that cover a wide range of areas for your pup, and Ruckus has tried some out to help him with his daily nutrition.
NOW Pets provided the following supplements for Ruckus to try:
We weren't ready to try all out at once, so we decided to start with two that we thought would help him through his day: GI Support and Pet Relaxant.
GI Support
*Warning* This section goes into the "everybody poops" category. If you are squeamish about reading about these kinds of things...please go to the next section!
Ruckus occasionally has loose stools, even with a consistent diet of his pet food and the regular snacks we give him. It's definitely an experience having to work with all that fur and deal with this situation! Some of you have pups that deal with this a little bit easier, but for Ruckus, it can be quite a journey with baby wipes. We started giving Ruckus the GI Support as part of a daily supplement routine to see how it would work over the next two weeks.
We noticed there was some improvement. He did have loose stools over the two weeks, but it seemed well reduced. As we continue trying it out over the next month, we hope to see a lot more improvement, but so far we are content with the results!
Pet Relaxant
Ruckus has a lot of neighbors in the backyard and can get excited, rushing around the grass and doing zoomies as he talks to them over the fence. This can be great fun, except when it's raining outside and he starts tracking mud inside the house! We think the change in weather can make him even more anxious to talk to his friends, so trying to keep him a little bit more calm would be nice.
We added the Pet Relaxant to his daily supplements. Again, we have been trying it over the past two weeks. He's still rather energetic when it rained twice over the time period, but maybe we just haven't been able to try it for a long enough time. We'll continue trying it out over the next month to see what turns out.
Now Pets is putting on a cool giveaway that also benefits an Animal Shelter. Read the following for details on how to enter:

NOW Pets provided the following supplements for Ruckus to try:
- NOW® Pets Weight Management: Designed to support proper weight and a healthy appetite. It is recommended for overweight dogs and contains natural botanical and Carnitine, a science-backed ingredient that helps with weight management
- NOW® Pets Immune Support: Formulated to help support your pet’s immune system and innate response to pathogens, as well as help to enhance liver and kidney function.
- NOW® Pets Joint Support: Formulated to help alleviate occasional discomfort associated with routine daily activity.
- NOW® Pets Omega-3 Support: Formulated to provide the important omega-3 fatty acids dogs and cats need to help support joint health, normal brain function, and a normal immune response to seasonal challenges.
- NOW® Pets Pet Relaxant: Formulated to promote relaxation and contentment during changes to the daily routine, which can include separation, travel, motion sickness and/or tension.
- NOW® Pets Urinary Support: Formulated to help maintain normal urinary pH, which may help reduce occasional urinary crystal formation. It also helps maintain normal urinary tract function and may help support normal kidney detoxification processes.
- NOW® Pets G.I. Support: Aids in reducing occasional loose stools due to transport, boarding, or dietary changes to your pet’s daily routine, and helps with occasional gastric distress.
Take a look at the set below, as Ruckus reads over the labels:
