Preventive Health for your Dog

Preventive Health is as important for canines as it is for sapiens. All canines should have a veterinary examination at least once yearly, but the frequency of vet visits may vary based on the individual needs of the canine. We strongly believe that it is important for your pup's health to address concerns early, so what we can do well is come in with a list of questions ready for the doctor!

At your pup's annual visit, a general history and physical is often collected, reviewing the medical conditions, parasite prevention and control, dental care and oral hygiene, vaccinations, discussion of genetic breed and special age considerations. Other topics that may also come up may be on behavior and nutrition. Lifestyle changes may be implemented or suggested by your vet.

Remember, annual checkups are as essential as food and love!

  1. This is a great reminder. I was really surprised when I recently read about people skipping out on taking their pet for annual check ups. Even when I was a broke college student/recent grad/new home owner I never skipped a check up for any of my pets (parrots, rats and guinea pigs too!)

  5. We go in twice a year for checkups and then usually we end up at the vet 1-2 other times a year for something like a small infection, injury, etc. It is important, AND when you are there, always check your weight. If you are packing on pounds, start that diet, if you are losing, you may be ill.

  7. Our vet has a great postcard system that helps us remember when to book appointments. You fill one out before you leave and it arrives to remind you when the next regular visit is due for anything you regurally schedule.

  9. I'm guilty of only going to the vet when absolutely necessary. Should probably get in for a wellness check up sometime soon. Thanks for joining the Pet Parade! ~Rascal and Rocco
