Hello and welcome to Thoughtless Thursday! This Thursday, I would like to share with you my Ruckus Report!

Kyjen sent us a set of goodies to test out a few months ago! After a good use of these items, here are my 2 cents.

1) Kyjen Doggy Block Spinner
Current Price $17.22

PROS:
  • Shatterproof Plastic
  • Treat hiding puzzles requiring spinning
    • More challenging than other tots
  • Encourages natural instincts
  • BPA and Phthalate Free

CONS:
  • Difficult to clean:
    • Requires you to clean in between the nooks and crannies that the slobber can get into

Current Price $12.47

PROS:
  • Very innovative design for indoor exercise
    • good for rainy indoor days!
  • Textured handle grip
  • Comes with free replacement tail teaser that also squeaks (almost time to replace ours!-lasted 3 months now)
CONS:
  • Plucking Tendency: I have a tendency to pluck at this special squeaker
  • Needs open space indoors to avoid injury

3) Kyjen Hills Slow-Bowl
Current Price $20.98

PROS:
  • Slows down eating (see video!)
    • Helps me slow down from 30 seconds to 3 minutes!
  • Prevents indigestion and bloating
    • Notice an improvement of upset stomach
  • BPA, PVC and Pthalate Free
CONS:
  • Difficulty to Clean
    • Use a thin scotch brite to get in between
    • Slimy slobber attractant
  • Wished it was ceramic or glass
    • For everyday use, my sapiens prefer that I use a ceramic or glass bowl

Overall, a good set of items from Kyjen. I love their products but out of the 3, my favorite has to be the Tail Teasers. During the cold weather and rainy season (finally!) in California, indoor playing is the key to a bored restless dog. I play with this toy EVERYDAY with my sapiens! Even when there's no depressing weather outside. My sapiens even attach different toys to it to change it up a bit!

Hope these reviews help! Happy Thoughtless Thursdays friends!

  1. BOL!! I didn't think Eskies slobbered. It takes me forever to get a slobber coating on anything. Even my kisses aren't very wet, but they aren't quite as dry as a kitty's kisses.

  5. Haha I didn't think they made such fun stuff for dogs. Lucy needs something like that, she's so bored stuck inside because of the snow. She's been just a little bit crazy lately ;)

  6. Wow, Ruckus! Those are some nifty products from Kyjen. I love puzzle games...they give my brains a workout...but not sure Ma would like to clean up any slobber from cracks and crevices. BOL
*high paw* for a great review!

  7. Interesting products. I think I'd probably end up soaking that first puzzle toy in hot, soapy water for awhile to get it clean. My dogs aren't much on puzzles or tows, and they don't inhale. They're old, though. I'm making a mental list of all these fun things for our next dog.

  8. Jan doesn't like plastic bowls for us either. Buddy has a big plastic bowl to slow him down but it's such a pain to clean so it usually gathers dust. She was using it for Marcus but switched him to a stainless steel bowl.

  9. We put our block sinner in the dishwasher too...but I can see how hand washing it could be a pain! Thanks for the great reviews!

  10. Kyjen makes some pretty good stuff. Maya and Pierson have a lot of toys and stuff from Kyjen. I agree about the bowl needing to be ceramic. Plastic is pours, stains easily, and is difficult to clean.

  11. Hmmm some of these toys look interesting. Ice been considering getting new puzzles 4 Weasley he is baffled by the busy buddy so he may need a simple puzzle though

  12. Those look great. Bentley is a major drooler though so that could be a problem.

  14. Shiloh has a million toys (I might not be exaggerating there). But if I had to get rid of everything and keep only one toy, the Tail Teaser would be it. I *love* it. Shiloh is a very high energy sheltie and I could never wear him out physically myself, no matter what. On those days where he needs extra exercise but I'm short on options, *this* is what does it for him. He would chase this till he collapsed if I let him. And it has so many "uses"... Great for teaching/reinforcing impulse control- he has to sit and wait till I release him to chase it. I always have it with me at agility trials to drain some of the excess energy and craziness before a run. It's his favorite reward during training... A few tips, though... You mentioned Ruckus plucking the toy. You can actually swap out the included toy for just about any toy you want. I usually just use a braided fleece toy- light, great for tugging afterwards, and easy to clean/replace when it gets too slobbery. Also, though I know this was a Kyjen review, this toy is made by many different companies. I also have the Kong version- it's a little shorter, and it breaks down into two pieces for easy storage/travel. I use that one for agility trials for that reason, but I do find the Kyjen much sturdier- I like it better. But it is bigger- I almost always use it outdoors. The Kong may be easier for indoor use if you don't have a lot of space. This is also a toy that's easy to make yourself- a google search of DIY flirt poles will give you tons of hits. So I agree with you- the Tail Teaser is my favorite of the store-bought flirt poles, and they are great for training and burning energy. Love it!

  15. The Kyjen Tail Teasers look like something Mikko would enjoy! He loves to play fetch with his purple puppy as well. He loves chasing things, so those Tail Teasers would rock!
