On a hike in Fremont, CA, we came across a young rattlesnake slithering near the trail. I do not believe Ruckus had noticed it, but we did and decided to snap a few pics (from a safe distance). There's something mesmerizing about a snake. Definitely not as cute as a random lizard perched on a brick wall, but much more appealing to the eye than the freaky centipede.

Hopefully we will see more creatures throughout our journey in the world and share them with all of you.

Happy Sepia Saturday!

  1. Snakes scare me. We ran into a non venomous water snake in our creek last weekend. Gave me the heebie jeebies.

  6. One really good thing about living in New Zealand is we don't have any snakes :) Somehow I don't think I'd be taking a photo if I came across a rattle snake! Your sapiens are very brave Ruckus.

  8. Hi Y'all!

Yep, a healthy distance from a snake is always best or, as my Human says, "better safe than sorry". Beautiful photo.

    Y'all come by now,

  10. We saw a big snake once on a late walk. It was crossing the sidewalk in front of us.

  11. I'm glad you chose not to hurt the snake. I don't love them (wouldn't want one for a pet) but they have their own kind of beauty and we need them. You got a good photo! We saw one at the arboretum, perfectly camouflaged on the trail. Toby stepped right over it without seeing it. As soon as we went by it hustled into the woods.

  12. Eeep! No thanks! I've seen snakes before while out walking and each time it made my skin crawl and my feet run! ;P That is a great photo though!

  13. That does look like a big snake. I am always surprised when I find a snake on our walks. But I usually find Garter Snakes, nothing big like at Rattlesnake

  14. I've seen only a few rattlesnakes, and thankfully my dog has never seen one. Glad this one was moving the other way!

  17. A nice photo...but a not-so-nice subject! I've never come across one of these guys before, but Momma warns me they aren't so nice. You may want to be friends with him, but I'm not sure he'd want to be friends with you!

  19. EEEEK! I am not a fan of snakes!!! No way no how! Although, when they are in their aquariums as pets, I do love to look at them, they are definitely memorizing!
    But YUCK!
    xx husky hugz!
