PSA: Give blood for all walks of life! Pet Blood Donation!

I am sure many sapiens know that they can donate blood to help other sapiens that need transfusions. But, did you know, canines can also be need of blood? Not sapien blood, mind you!

This 'N That Thursday Presents...

It’s a little of this and a little of that and everything in between…

Hosted by 2 brown dawgs & Ruckus the Eskie. Please linkup and join the fun on this Thursday Edition!

The Stanford Blood Center posted a few months ago during the summer about the increase in need for canine blood during the summer months. Sapiens are out with their canines at the canine parks and having a good time when an accident occurs and blood transfusions are required! Even I had blood loss during the tail end of summer (just a little!).

Although I am a bit of a scaredy-cat (no offense, felines!), my sapiens are avid blood donors. Sometimes I get to tag along, and although Iam not allowed in the official blood centers due to FDA regulations, the mobile drives can be accommodating. They have offered to walk me while my sapien is donating blood! Sometimes my sapiens also sneak me a pretzel or two for my patience!

I'm not an actual donor, but you can give me an Eskimo Kiss anyway!

I also wanted to highlight a cross-promotional sapien/canine event that Stanford Blood Center and the Human Society Silicon Valley are starting called the Give Good Campaign. Between December 18 and January 12, 2013, for each donor who donates, a donation will be made for animal medical needs. In addition, as the sapien donor, you will get a nice-looking tote bag!

Please note the following when considering donating blood:
Blood donors must:
  • Visit the eligibility page for donation information or call 888-723-7831.
  • Be at least 17 years of age
  • Weigh at least 110 lbs
  • Be free of cold and flu symptoms (allergies okay; as are most medications)
  • Eat before donating & drink plenty of fluids
  • BRING PHOTO ID
Blood is tasty!

  5. A very important message for people and pets. A couple of months ago, the ER Vet Hospital that saved Thunder after he bloated featured one of their canine donors in a FB post. I was happy to share the post. That vet hospital is the blood bank for our area and provides an important service.
