As dog owners, we were clearly told by our veterinarians what foods are considered safe and unsafe for our dogs. In fact, there are rotating lists on the internet emphasizing healthy snacks and "poisons". Some examples of what we were told were toxic for pets were chocolate, persimmons, and even avocados!
