Peak Antler Review + Giveaway (ended 10/6)

Today I am excited to share with you Ruckus the Eskie's FIRST GIVEAWAY! One lucky dog will receive ONE (1) antler bone, either a medium or large size courtesy of The Peak Antler Company.

I am a huge fan of antler bones as a chew toy. Antler chews are the best way for me to release my aggression. Which, of course, helps explain why I'm so low-key and mellow the majority of the time.

Giveaway ends 10/6/2013 9:00PM/12:00AM PDT/EDT. Please click through to get to the entry page.

Here is my Ruckus Report on this particular chew:

PROS:

The Peak Antler company offers an exclusive line of high quality antler furniture, lighting, and home furnishings. While constructing their antler furniture, the company noticed leftover scraps, so us puppies get to benefit from them!
  • GREEN: The no-waste theory--I love it when companies are able to recycle, reduce, and reuse!
  • Naturally-shed: from white tail deer, mule deer, elk, moose, and fallow deer antlers in the USA --NO ANIMALS harmed in this collection!
  • No stain: does not stain our white carpet.  I don't care much about this but my sapiens seem to.
  • Oral Hygiene: cleans my teeth the fun way! As much as I love getting my teeth brushed, this is considerably funner for me. My sapiens love it too because if I get the antler to play with, it relieves them of the brushing duty that night. Win-win situation.

CONS/DESIGN:

The company was generous enough to send over these bones in two different sizes for comparison. I'm a standard-size male American Eskimo, weighing about 32-37lb (embarrassed to announce publicly). I felt more suited to the larger size, once I had a go at both of them.
  • Size: On the website, there is a recommended sizing section that helps the purchaser in determining what's the best fit for your pup. The Medium size is 6'' to 7'' (ours was about 6''), The Large size is 8''-9'' (ours was about 9''). When the medium bone came, it felt a bit too small for me. I compared to the site and it didn't look as big as the one in the picture, but still fell into the range listed. Perhaps it was from deer versus elk. I depicted the sizes with the sharpie below for comparison. The medium here would probably work best for a smaller breed (such as a toy or mini Eskie).

Large Elk Antler

  • Supervision needed: of course this goes without saying with any chew toys or antlers. This is stated on the website already but I just wanted to reinforce that long-term chewing can cause bleeding. My sapiens never leave me unattended with the antler (because I love them so much!) They even have a time limit on how long I can chew them to avoid gum line bleeds.
I think the key is to keep in mind that this is just a guideline because you know your dog best. An aggressive chewer may benefit from a larger size, however, if it's too big, it'll be harder to hold and gnaw on. When in doubt, it's best to contact the company and ask! The response rate is fast so you will have an answer in no time.

CURRENT PRICE:

Small  $7.95 USD

Medium: $9.95 USD

Large: $15.95 USD

X-Large: $23.45 USD

Company's website: http://www.peakantlers.com

On a side note:  The company carries the Teddy Roosevelt Presidential Desk made with elk antlers that impressed my sapiens. All I could think of was how I could get my teeth around that desk!

Anyhow, lets get to the fun part--the GIVEAWAY! Follow the directions on the Rafflecopter directions below.

  1. Hi Ruckus! My Eskie, Boo-Boo Bear, loves antlers too. We found him in a shelter, and the first time he got a chewie he had no idea what to do with it. Once he figured it out he loved it! =)

  2. Thanks so much for participating in TNT. Antlers are a big hit around here. When Freighter was a puppy, they saved us because he would destroy all the other chew toys including back kongs...lol.

  5. I like antlers, but we order split antlers, they seem more interesting. My baby sister Bailie chews on an antler all the time...it is saving our home from puppy destruction!

    1. Oh yes, splint antlers are more fun because you can easily get into the insides! They probably don't last too long though huh?

I'm a rescue mutt but this is for my cousin since it hurts my teeth now I'm 11. He's a big, big dude, part Golden part giant! And I'm no tiny slouch... I'm at least 35/40 lbs. He's big though so maybe we should go for large. He'll even do the medium though. He'll eat anything. Not a picky eater like me though he's a rescue too! Mama thanks you for the giveaway. Woof!
